We left the most controversial trend for last: white socks. It started in the streets of New York with a movement called Normcore – which means wearing a regular piece in a trendy way – and won the catwalks this season. Judging by the amount of fashionistas wearing it on the streets, the style is here to stay.
These are regular socks, the type we wear every day to the gym. In fashion it’s been worn with sandals, couture sneakers and shoes. Some wear it over the pants, to make it even more evident. Up on the catwalk, we saw it at Kenzo’s, Carven’s and Phillip Lim’s fashion shows.
We talked to Yilmaz Aktepe, editor-in-chief of Men’s Health Germany, who succumbed to the trend. “I think this trend only exists because it’s part of a fashion movement that is trying to wear something everybody rejects and consider ugly as a new direction to follow. I started wearing it not only because I like the concept but, of course, because it’s a way to try something new and think outside the box”, he says. You must be brave!
